Title: Application of various microscopes for functional and nano materials

Abstract

For development of new materials, microscopic imaging is essential to visualize the morphological. compositional, functional distribution and dynamic behavior. In the presentation, observation with various microscopes will be shown, including SEM/REM (Scanning secondary/reflection electron microscopy), EDS (X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy), TEM/HRTEM ((high resolution) transmission electron microscopy), OM ((Time lapse) optical microscopy), CLSM (confocal laser scanning microscopy), XSAM (X-ray scanning analytical microscopy) and AFM (atomic force microscopy).

Biography

Professor Fumio WATARI was born in 1949 in Minami Soma City, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. He finished his bachelor, master and doctor courses in the University of Tokyo (2018 QS World Ranking 28/500). His research focused on nano biomaterials, including (1) Biomedical Application of Carbon Nanotubes and their Derivatives, (2) Nanoparticles and immunology of living organism, (3) Development of Functional Biomaterials: Functionally Graded Implant, Esthetic Orthodontic Wire, (4) Bioimaging by Various Microscopies using AFM, XSAM, CLSM, EPMA. So far. he had published over 400 peer-reviewed papers. Now he is the President of Nano Biomedical Society, the member of the Japanese Society of Microscopy, and the Japanese Society of Dental Materials and Devices. He also works as the Editor-in- Chief of the journal “Nano Biomedicine”.
